Red's P.O.V.

I remember the day that you arrived in my arms...I remember it like it was yesterday. (Birthdate) was that fateful day. I was expecting you a week later but like the stubborn person that you were, that day was the day you came into the world. Unexpected but even with that, I love you as much as I do now. I don't think that I could ever love you any less but I can always love you more.

That day. I remember that it was around night time of the previous day. My wife and I were watching a movie. Come to think of it, I don't remember what it even was. Maybe it was a sappy romance but it must've been something that I didn't like much if I can't even remember it. While watching the movie, the bowl that held the popcorn was empty and I had to let go of her so I could get some more.

Before I left the room, I viewed her swollen belly that would soon give birth to you. My face had a soft smile as I left the room, bowl in hand. In the kitchen, the popcorn maker was already there, connected to the outlet and beside it, the half-empty kernel bag. Placing the bowl on one of the stove's panels, I called out to my wife,

"Oi! Should I pour the rest of the kernels or only some of them?"

No response. Maybe she was too entranced by the movie...Maybe something happened to her. I couldn't  take the risk so I cautiously walked back into the living room and there she was, hunched over on the couch, her hands placed on her belly. My first instinct was to run to her.

"A-Are you okay?" I yelled but only because I was panicking. Who wouldn't?

Sharp breathing...Groans of pain. My hands were placed on my wife's shoulders but I couldn't see her face; Her hair covered most of it.

"H-Hos..." I could barely make out of what she was saying.

"Hos?"

The breathing became quicker and the groans multiplied in quantity. Was she in labor...? "H-Hos..pital..T-The baby's coming...Red!"

My red eyes widen. She was in labor! My panic became worse but before it got out of hand, I managed to get the phone and call the hospital number. I told them that my wife was in labor. Calmly, the nurse on the other side of the line said that an ambulance would arrive in about 10 minutes. We did live close to the hospital but by car, it would take twice that amount; By Pokémon...Well, I didn't think that it would be safe enough to transfer her.

As soon as I canceled the call, screaming filled the room. My wife's screams of pain. From what I read from parenting, birth, or any types of those kinds of books, I knew that the time of being in labor or the time before it even starts could be painful. There was a damp cloth in a bowl of water on the same table where the popcorn started. I kept it there in the case if she needed it. Frantically grabbed the cloth, I softly dabbed her head, which was already glistening from sweating.

"Everything's going to be fine, dear...The ambulance are arriving in 8 minutes...Just hang in there!" I tried to reassure her over her screams. They were loud but they still didn't overpowered my words, even with my soft tone.

Her eyes...They were wide, filled with fear. She was just as scared as I was. Maybe even more. I could only think on how painful it is for her and I was almost powerless about it. The other hand, its' fingers stroked her left cheek in a circular motion. I gazed at her eyes again and at the corner were visible tears.

"Red...It hurts..It hurts so much. Please help me," she whispered. If she wasn't in so much pain, I knew she would be happy that she's giving birth to our first child.

"I know it does. Just please hold on for just a little while longer. Help is on the way. Just wait..."

In the minutes that we waited, there was no screaming. We were in a tight embrace but it was not filled with silence. She was clinging to my clothing, almost hissing in pain. I continually rubbed her back and her hand, telling her as much as reassurance as I could. 4 minutes left. Come on...Come on. I could feel her teeth start to bite on my shirt. She wanted to scream but she didn't want to cause such a havoc...

1 minute... "We're almost there. Help's going to come any minute."

At that moment, a knock on the door. I had to leave her side and as soon as I did, she screams. Not as loud as before. Sprinting to the door, I opened it and was almost trampled by the amount of nurses that came through the door along with the one stretcher that were rolled by several Chanseys. One of the nurses stayed right next to me and we both watched the nurses and Chanseys pick up my wife and put her on the stretcher.

They rolled her out and my eyes followed her. The nurse next to me sadly smiled and gestured a hand. "I'm sure that you would love to follow her. Come on, we'll follow the ambulance from behind."

                                                      ~~~
Once we arrived at the hospital through the emergency entrance, all the paramedics were in a rush and my wife was breathing heavily, a painful look on her face. That was the last thing that I saw before they took her into a hospital room to deliver the baby. The last words I barely heard from her were the words, "I...love...you.." to which I replied "I love you too.."
After that, the doctors forbade from seeing her in the laboring process. I'm not sure why but I was devastating.
Hours? Days? Months? I'm sure it was hours but it felt so much longer than that. Pacing back and forth, nibbling my fingernails on both hands out of nervousness. I got several calls that day from my friends when they found out the news. I answered each one of them but the calls were never long.  I was too nervous to keep a call for more than one minute.
4:00...It's almost been 6 hours. It felt more like 6 days or even 6 months. The doctor opened the door...Her eyes, they were happy but they seemed to be overpowered by the amount of the sadness in them.
"Would you like to see your wife and your newborn son?" I nodded at the question. I was too exhausted to run so I walked slowly into the room. Another nurse that sat right next to the bed that held my wife held the baby. His eyes were arched and his mouth formed the smallest frown ever; His eyes were opened, they were red but they matched with the color of his, the color of my wife's hair.
She handed him over to me, the same look that the doctor had was on her face. "Normally, we would ask your wife about his name but it seemed that...she wasn't able to survive the birth...We're sorry about your grief.."
At that moment, it seemed that my whole world had crumbled down. My eyes closed and my head hung down. The love of my life...gone. Now what do I do? What am I supposed to do? I can't take care of a child by myself, no matter how many books that I have read to prepare for this. I needed her. She can't be...dead.
A tug. Another one. Three tugs. My eyes opened and viewed our child tugging on my shirt. There were water droplets on his head and on the clothing that he was wrapped in. My tears. He was fussing while tugging on my shirt. His mouth was open as if he was trying to smile. The sight made my lips quivered slightly before the twitch of smile appeared.
His name. The nurses had asked me for his name. I looked back up and only the doctor was left. The nurses were gone. Possibly to get the preparations to send him home with me. She held a clipboard and a kind smile on her face.
"(Name)...That's what I'll name him," I told her before I looked at my son again. My precious (Name). I knew I would be grieving over his mother for who knows how long...but I couldn't let my emotions take over me.
He was my priority now.
                                                       ~~~

Present day. It's been almost 8 years since (Name) appeared in my life. His birthday was almost arriving in less than 3 days. Only in third grade but he was doing exceptionally well. Just as I did when I was near his age, he treated his Pokémon with love and respect. He was friends with so many people but I still watched over him.

We pulled up to the front of the school. I looked back at him and his booster seat. He was fidgeting in his seat. His red eyes were viewing back even if they were blocked by his hair.

"We're here, (Name)," I told him, unfastening my seat belt so that I could reach over and unfasten his seat belt and chair so that he could get out.

"Yay!" He was excited and he looked a bit goofy with him missing one of his teeth. Once I took off the belts that held him to the chair, he immediately jumped out and exited the car. He didn't run to the entrance to the school but waited outside. He looked at me and smiled. He had her smile.

"Wish me luck, Dad!" (Name) said.

I laughed at him and wished him luck. Before he left, he opened the passenger seat and nearly tackled me with a hug. It was firm but it had a nice feeling. I stroked his hair while I embraced him back.

"You'll do great out there, buddy. I know it," I whispered.

He laughed and grinned. "Thanks, Daddy! I love you!" He exited the hug and walked out of the door, closing it as he went. I called out to him,

"I love you too, (Name)!"

He turned back and waved before he was joined by a girl. Green's kid. I smiled and exited the car from the passenger side. It couldn't hurt to watch him enter the school. I do this every day.

I saw him go through everything his life. His first crawl, his first word, his first walk even if he fell mid-way, his first birthday...Everything. I loved him as much I loved my wife. I'd still have to tell him that his mother had died while giving birth to him but when I do, I'll be there for him.

I've always have.

He's the apple of my eyes and no one will take that away from me. I will watch him until I can't anymore. I will love him forever. No matter what, I will always be there for him.

Arceus...Thank you for bringing the apple of my eyes to my life...I thank you for bringing my precious (Name) into my life. I couldn't ask for anything better than my son...Thank you for everything.

(Name)...Never forget that. Never forget that You are the apple of my eyes and life. No one will change that...
Wow! This is actually a type of story that I have never thought of doing. While I specialized in love stories between the Pokemon characters, this, honestly, will hold a special place in my heart. Thank you to :iconyell0w-diamond: for commissioning this to me! Enjoy this story.

On a couple of notes, Red's wife is up to your imagination. I really couldn't pick just one girl for the ship since there are many so it's up to you to know who is his wife.

Thanks for read and let me know what you think!

I own nothing but the story.
